Lincs League Round 9 08, Ashby de la Launde

The final point scoring round of the 2008 Lincs League was held at Ashby de la Launde. A warm sunny evening greeted a much depleted Velosport GCM Landscapes team. With only Eddy, Mark and Stu riding hanging onto the league overall was never going to be an easy task! Ben was holding a 12 point lead going into the race, but he was busy in Holland riding for the British Cycling Talent Team. Meanwhile the race was under way and as the whole field came together for the finish it was Jim Coleman who crossed the line in 4th place to steal the 2008 Lincs League title by 1 point from Ben!

Not an ideal way to finish the year, but I guess 2nd place isn't bad?

Over the 2008 season Velosport GCM Landscape riders won 4 of the 9 rounds, got a 2nd and a 3rd and numerous other top 10 placings.

Lets see what 2009 holds for the team!

Lincs League Round 8 08, Withern

Round 8 of the League was held on the Withern Circuit near Louth and with the absence of Ben Dunn still fielded a strong team line up for the event. Four groups set off on three laps of the course with six Velosport GCM team members within the peleton. By the start of the final lap all four groups had come together and a large group sprint was on the cards! So at the base of the uphill finish Jay timed his sprint to absolute prefection as he crossed the line arms punching the sky followed by Stu Axcell in 4th and a Ronnie making his return to league racing in 6th! All in all a fantastic night for the team who so far have won 4 out of the 7 rounds!

Lincs League Round 7 08, Grantham

Over to Grantham for round 7 of the league and Ben Dunn stamped his authority all over the race. Starting with the harder 'scratch' group at the back of the race he worked his way up to the front group to take his second win of the league this season! Great result for Ben who is now leading the league once again!

Lincs League Round 6 08, Alvingham

Alvingham was the setting for round 6 of the league and was the 1st opportunity for Velosport/GCM to host a round of the Lincolnshire League. Fielding most of the team for their 'Home' event it was a dry but windy evening as the 52 riders set off from the start. It was apparent from the start that the scratch riders couldn't organise the chase so off went Ben to try and chase down the groups ahead, however it was a short lived attempt as both Steve Marrows and Julien Grommett closed down every attack Ben made until Steve finally got away taking Velosport/GCM rider and former teammate Stu Axcell with him. Together the pair forged ahead in pursuit of the peleton until they caught and passed them and then in a show of respect for each other the pair crossed the line together! Race officials gave the win to Steve Marrows with Stu 2nd. A great result on a demanding evening!

Lincs League Round 5 08, Ingham

Round 5 of the series takes the team back to Ingham, same circuit as Aisthorpe but with a few more laps for good measure! Greeted with a warm sunny evening and a welcome return of 'Little Ed' to the team it was down to business! For Ben it was his first opportunity to start with the scratch group with a much larger time deficit than he is used to, still he seemed to be relishing the challenge and just wanted to "get on with it". As the riders set off it was once again a wearing down process until the whole group of some 70 riders came together with 2 laps to go. Julian Grommett was first to attack quickly shadowed by Stu Axcell with Ben Dunn on his wheel. As the last lap started it was back together until at the base of the climb Team Velosport GCM Landscapes went to the front and launched Ben up the road, once he took flight there was no stopping the British Cycling Talent Team rider coming over the line arms aloft! A special mention has to go to Stu Axcell for policing the race and helping Ben get the win, as for the rest of the team, they were happy that once again Velosport GCM Landscapes got the win!

Ben getting his well earned win!

Lincs League Round 4 08, Barton upon Humber

Round 4 of the Lincs League 08 season took the Velosport/GCM Landscapes team back to Ben's 'Home' race in Barton upon Humber. Fielding a strong team for the event Ben and the boys set about trying to make it two wins in a row for the team. As the race progressed and the laps passed by the groups of riders gradually came together to form one large peleton. As the finish line approached Ben launched his attack, a little too far out as it happens, with Steve Marrows on his shoulder the two went elbow to elbow all the way to the line with Steve just edging the win from Ben by a wheel! Andy came in 3rd and Jay 5th with Stu unlucky to finish just out of the top ten with a finish straight puncture! So all in all a fantastic nights racing for the team.

Lincs League Round 3 08, Revesby

J Boys Back! The picture tells the story! First League win of the season goes to Jay!

Isle of Man Youth Tour

After 3 days of racing in the Isle of Man youth tour Ben Dunn claimed a fantastic 3rd overall in the 'Boys A' category.
On day 1 he was 4th in the prologue, day 2 brought Ben a 6th and on the 3rd and final day of racing a 10th was all he needed to bring home 3rd overall in his category.
Once again a great result for Ben!

Roeselare Kermesse, Belgium

After the Wim Hendriks Trofee came the Roeselare Kermesse in Belgium, held the following day it was straight down to racing for Ben Dunn and his GB Talent Teammates. This time 8 laps of a 7.5km circuit being the route around Roeselare and once again the GB Olympic Development Team was busy stamping its name all over the race along with a little help from Ben and his GB Talent Team! Yesterdays 1st and 2nd placed riders switched podium places for this race with Sam Harrison winning and Daniel McLay coming 2nd. Ben made it one better than the previous day coming in 5th, once again relishing the experience of riding on the continent!

Wim Hendriks Trofee, Belgium

Once again it was off to Belgium for Ben Dunn in April as he was once again selected for the GB Talent Team's entry into the Wim Hendriks Trofee. A warm sunny day greeted the team, most unusual in Belgium for the time of year, as the 70km race got underway. After many moves during the race it was British Olympic Development Rider Daniel McLay who eventually got away to win the race with teammate Sam Harrison 2nd, Ben was best placed GB Talent Team rider in 6th clearly showing the Belgians that British Cycling is coming on in leaps and bounds! Well done to Ben for a great effort from his teammates at Velosport GCM!

Lincs League Round 2 08, Aisthorpe

Aisthorpe was the venue for Round 2 of the League and on a warm evening with a large field of riders Velosport GCM got to work to open their points account for the year! With Ben winning the championship last year he has been placed further down the field for this year, but as a result is showing great strength and maturity in positioning himself within the field of riders, as a result Ben came a creditable third place in the race! He did however have his arms raised claiming victory, someone failed to inform him and the rest of the peloton that there were 2 escapees down the road!!!!! Don't worry Ben, victory for you is just around the corner!
A spirited ride by all the team!

Lincs League Round 1 08, Long Bennington

The start of the 2008 Lincs League seems to have come around so quickly so it was off to Long Bennington, south of Newark to start Team Velosport GCM Landscape's defence of the Trophy! A cool windy night greeted the team, and a rather uneventful night for the boys was soon underway. Groups 1 & 2 managed to stay away and as a result John Stachan of Lindsey Roads CC was the eventual winner. Andy brought home the bunch for Velosport GCM out of the points!

Ben gets 6th in Belgium.

Young Ben Dunn continues to impress with an outstanding result in his first trip abroad to Belgium last weekend.
Riding for the British Cycling Talent Team Ben throughly enjoyed the experience despite the cold wind's, driving rain and yes, the belgian cobbles! With fellow BC Team member Daniel Mclay winning the event Ben rode hard to finish 6th! A fine result in his opening European race!

Congratulations to Ben from all of the Velosport GCM Landscapes Team!

Stu Signs On!

Velosport GCM Landscapes Cycling Team is pleased to anounce the signing of Stu Axcell to its 2008 team roster. Stu is an acomplished rider having ridden for the UK Fire Brigade team and brings some extra fire power (excuse the pun!) to the team!

Welcome aboard Stu!

Belgium Calling.

Ben Dunn's learning curve is to take a huge step the weekend of 15/16th March as he will be a member of the British Cycling talent team taking part in the 2008 Deinze-Ieper race in Belgium. This is the first of two planned trips to spiritual home of cycling and of the legendary Eddy Merckx this year for Ben.

A full report will follow, but for now, GO BEN!!

Darley Moor Circuit 2.

Once again a windy day greeted Ben Dunn to the Darley Moor Circuit and once again Ben delivered the goods only this time going one better to get 3rd in the Senior race and again winning the Under 16's!

Is there no stopping this kid?

Darley Moor Circuit.

Strong winds greeted Ben Dunn at the Darley Moor circuit for the 1st round of the Ashfield RC promoted event. With a good start to the 55km race Ben was well positioned in the field but as the wind battered the field two riders managed to escape from the bunch and forge ahead. As the race entered the closing kms the two leaders crossed the line as Ben lead home the bunch only to be passed by Russ Haynes (Lutterworth CC) on the line! So 4th in the race but winning the under 16's!
A great start to the 2008 road season!

Revolution Future Stars.

Ben continued his track progress at the recent Revolution Future Stars race held at the Manchester Velodrome. The evenings events were held to a capacity crowd and although being undergeared Ben held his nerve and used the event to learn and hone his track skills! He certainly didn't let the huge crowd get to him! A future star indeed!
